episode 8
Solar Power Generation at the Chofu Factory
Solar panels have been installed on the roof of the Chofu factory, where Hoppy is made, and solar power generation has been underway since 2019. Although the output is small (49.5 kWh) due to the narrow space available on the rooftop, this is one of our efforts to do our utmost to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Analyzing the amount of electricity generated by the solar panels, the panels generate more electricity in May, June, and August (less in July), and reduced amounts from October through February of the following year. On average, about 3,800 kWh of electricity is generated per month. This is equivalent to the electricity consumption of about 12 average households in the wider Tokyo area.
The electricity generated by the solar panels is used by local households via power companies. The Chofu Plant also uses a lot of electricity. However, the factory is closed at times, and at other times stops operations for inspections. Solar power generation lasts 365 days a year. Since electricity cannot be stored, we think it is better to have it dedicated to places where it is used every day.
