Use Eco-Friendly Goods
One of the things we can do in our daily lives to contribute to carbon reduction is to use eco-friendly goods, rather than using disposable items. Just doing this can indirectly prevent carbon dioxide emissions when we make or throw away such single use products and packaging.
Many people are doing away with plastic bags and using their own bags. It has now become a well-established style of shopping. Some people wonder if charging for plastic bags is really effective for environmental issues. But I believe that the use of “My Bags” (eco-bags) has raised more interest in environmental issues. In this context, an eco-bag made from marine plastic waste has also been invented, giving yet another way to contribute to ecological activities to protect the marine ecosystem.
In addition to My Bag, there are several other “My XX”products that do not produce single-use trash. Many people have already started using My Bottle, which does not increase plastic bottle waste. Some coffee chain stores, and convenience stores also offer discounts if you bring your own bottle or tumbler. In April 2022, the "Law Concerning the Promotion of Resource Recycling of Plastics" came into effect in Japan. As a result, plastic spoons and forks that come with lunch boxes will no longer be distributed, and we can expect that the number of people carrying their own spoons and forks will increase. My Chopsticks, which do not generate disposable waste, and My Straw made of bamboo are also available. Camp cutlery sets containing a spoon, fork, and knife are also convenient for carrying as My Tableware.
Plastic bags and other disposable cups and containers are made from petroleum-based plastics. Because they are lightweight and strong, they have found many uses. However, with the latest technology, paper materials have been developed that are as strong as plastic and are now used for tableware. Using materials derived from nature, such as wood and bamboo, is eco-friendly because it seamlessly returns to nature when it is discarded.
