2017年2月のカレンダーを手がけたのは、ブラジルを拠点にするアートスタジオのイラストラータ・デザイン。「日本文化、いわゆるマンガやサブカル好き」を自称する。手書きのイラストレーションからコンピューターで仕上げる手法を得意とし、ビジュアルはもちろん、原色ではなく褪せたような渋みのある色使いで、作品をよりレトロな雰囲気に仕上げている。今作は、東京を連想する街でロボットとホップの怪獣がホッピーを飲んでいるという設定。未来を象徴するロボットとレトロな怪獣が最先端の技術やカルチャーを表し、さらには歴史がミックスする街としての東京を描いている。エネルギッシュでユーモラスな世界観がアツい。
Ilustrata Design, a design and illustration studio based in Brazil. They call themselves “lovers of Japanese culture, retro visual”. Their hand illustrations with computerized final touches are vivid and strong. Also, their color theory is very nostalgic—tinted, faded and sepia. Look at this awesome artwork portraying, “HOP Kaiju （strange beast)”, and a robot drinking together in Tokyo-Isa town. Kaiju represents retro Japanese culture, and the robot—cutting age technology. Together, it’s an image of Tokyo as a city of the past and the future.
